  1. EUDORA BY QUALCOMM MACINTOSH VERSION 2.1.2 UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS

  3. This README file provides instructions for downloading the Eudora by QUALCOMM 
  4. Macintosh version 2.1.2 upgrade files and for installing this upgrade.

  7. DOWNLOADING THE 2.1.2 UPGRADE ARCHIVES VIA FTP
  8.  
  9. To download the Macintosh 2.1.2 upgrade via QUALCOMM's anonymous ftp site, 
  10. ftp.qualcomm.com, look for the 2.1.2 updater and Spellswell 7 files in the 
  11. quest/mac/eudora/2.1 directory. The updater file name is eudora212.hqx, and 
  12. the Spellswell 7 file name is SpellingUpdate.hqx.

  15. DOWNLOADING THE 2.1.2 UPGRADE ARCHIVES VIA E-MAIL FILE SERVER
  16.  
  17. To download the Macintosh 2.1.2 upgrade via QUALCOMM's list server, please 
  18. use the following command:

  20. - Mail a message to majordomo@qualcomm.com with the body of the message 
  21. reading as follows:
  22.  
  23. get mac_eudora_updates 2.1/eudora212.hqx 
  24. get mac_eudora_updates 2.1/spellingupdate.hqx
  25.  
  26. Your new message will look similar to:

  28. To: majordomo@qualcomm.com
  29. From: <your return email address>
  30. Subject: <no subject needed>

  33. get mac_eudora_updates 2.1/spellingupdate.hqx

  35. - These "get" commands will elicit two responses. The first will be a 
  36. confirmation that the commands were correct and a notification that a second 
  37. message, which contains the files, is being sent. The second message contains 
  38. BinHex files which Eudora will automatically extract for you.

  41. INSTALLING THE EUDORA 2.1.2 UPGRADE
  42.  
  43. The upgrade files are downloaded to your desktop as self-extracting archives. 
  44. Just double-click to extract the updater and the Spellswell 7 folder. You 
  45. will be prompted for a password when extracting the Spellswell 7 folder. This 
  46. password was supplied in your e-mail notification message. If you no longer 
  47. have this password, it can be obtained from Eudora Sales at 
  48. eudora-admin@qualcomm.com, (800) 2-Eudora or (619) 658-1291. Be sure to 
  49. provide a valid site number when requesting this password.

  51. Once the Spellswell 7 folder extraction is complete, place it in your current 
  52. Eudora application folder.

  54. To upgrade your Eudora software, double-click the Eudora 2.1.2 updater file. 
  55. The updater program will prompt you through the upgrade process. Please be 
  56. aware that the updater program will only work on unmodified copies of Eudora 
  57. 2.1.1. If you have changed the program with a resource editor (i.e., 
  58. Resedit), the upgrade will not work. You must re-install the original version 
  59. of Eudora 2.1.1 prior to running the upgrade program.

  61. NOTE: If you are running a version of Eudora prior to 2.1.1, you must upgrade 
  62. to 2.1.1 prior to upgrading to 2.1.2.

  64. Once you have run the Eudora 2.1.2 updater, launch Eudora. The Edit menu now 
  65. contains a Check Spelling menu item. Select this item to check the spelling 
  66. of message composiiton windows and text files using the Spellswell 7 spelling 
  67. checker. For more information on using Spellswell 7, see the Spellswell 7 
  68. User Manual, which is included in soft copy format in the Spellswell 7 
  69. folder.
